Where do the extra books fit?

Alongside the main arcs there are Super Editions (longer standalone stories), shorter novellas, field guides about the Clans and graphic novels. None of them are needed to follow the main story. The simplest rule is to read each one after the arc it is linked to.

Is Warrior Cats right for my child?

The books are aimed at readers aged about 8 to 12. Kids love the adventure, the friendships and the huge cast of cats. Parents should know there are battles, injuries and deaths of characters, described in a way that suits middle-grade readers. If your child is sensitive to animal deaths, reading the first book together is a good way to see how they find it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the first Warrior Cats book?

The first book is Into the Wild, published in 2003. It begins The Prophecies Begin, the first six-book arc.

How many Warrior Cats books are there?

The main series has nine arcs. The first eight have six books each, and the ninth, Changing Skies, is still being published. On top of that there are Super Editions, novellas, field guides and graphic novels.

Should I read Dawn of the Clans first because it is a prequel?

Most fans recommend reading it in publication order, after Omen of the Stars. It makes more sense once you know the Clans and their history.

Do I need to read the Super Editions?

No. They are standalone stories that add background to favourite characters. You can read them whenever you like, though they are best after the main arcs they relate to.

What age are the Warrior Cats books for?

They are written for readers aged about 8 to 12. They include battles and some characters die, so younger or more sensitive readers may want to read with a grown-up.
